Can you escape debt by moving to another country?

Unfortunately, fleeing to a faraway country or even just moving to Canada to avoid student loans is a strategy full of pitfalls. This is due to an international network of tax authorities between European countries known as MARD or Mutual Assistance in the Recovery of Debt. And while it might be harder for lenders to track you down to collect them, it would likely only be successful if you lived outside the United States for the rest of your life. If you then return to the UK after about a year, your debt problems may be worse than when you left.
